The 3F collective agreement means the person cleaning your home is an employee — not a freelancer — with a guaranteed minimum wage, pension, holiday pay, sickness benefit and insurance. Hilfr signed the agreement in 2018 as the first platform in Denmark, and since 1 September 2024 every cleaner on the platform is covered. That is still unusual in the platform economy — and it is the whole point of Hilfr.
But what does it mean in practice — for the cleaner, for the quality, and for you as a customer?
Denmark's first platform collective agreement
In 2018, Hilfr became the first digital platform in Denmark to sign a collective agreement with 3F Private Service, Hotel and Restaurant. The arrangement began as a pilot in which cleaners could become employees — so-called Super Hilfrs — with pension, holiday pay and a guaranteed minimum wage.
The agreement was renewed and improved year by year, and since 1 September 2024 every cleaner on the platform is covered by a full collective agreement. The freelance model has been phased out entirely — at Hilfr, everyone is an employee.
What the agreement guarantees
The collective agreement secures cleaners rights that are taken for granted across the rest of the Danish labour market but rare in the platform economy:
- Guaranteed minimum wage — DKK 180.00 per hour
- Pension: 12.15% of the wage
- Holiday pay and earned holiday
- Sickness benefit
- Monthly salary payment with a digital payslip
What does it mean for you as a customer?
First and foremost, peace of mind: you know the cleaning is legal, the cleaner is insured, and taxes and documentation are in order — including your servicefradrag, the Danish tax deduction for household services.
But it also means better cleaning. A cleaner who stays with the same customer knows the home and works far more efficiently than someone who comes once. It does happen: 313 of our customers have had the same cleaner for more than a year, and 132 for more than two.
A different kind of platform economy
The platform economy has a tarnished reputation: casual work without rights, and pressure on both prices and people. Hilfr was created to show it can be done differently — that a smart digital solution and decent working conditions are not mutually exclusive.
Every time you book through Hilfr, you vote with your wallet for that model. Thank you for that.
